MOQ, Pricing & Payment Terms When Importing Indian Produce
What international buyers should know about minimum order quantities, how produce pricing is built, and the payment terms commonly used when importing from India.
Three questions come up in almost every first conversation with a new buyer: What’s the minimum order? How is the price calculated? And how do payments work? Here’s a clear answer to each.
Minimum order quantity (MOQ)
Fresh produce is shipped at container level — a single 40ft reefer or ventilated container is the practical minimum for most fruits and vegetables. The exact quantity depends on the product, packing format, and whether the load is palletised. Tell us your product and target volume and we’ll confirm the right packing and MOQ for your market.
How produce pricing is built
Export pricing isn’t a single number — it’s a stack of costs, and knowing the parts helps you compare quotes fairly:
- Farm-gate cost of the graded produce
- Sorting, grading, and packing materials and labour
- Pre-cooling and cold-chain handling
- Inland transport to the port
- Freight and insurance (only included in CIF/CNF terms)
- Documentation and inspection charges
Because we source directly from farms and remove middlemen, the farm-gate portion stays competitive — and we quote transparently so you can see what you’re paying for.
Why prices move through the season
Produce is seasonal and weather-sensitive, so prices shift with harvest timing, quality grades, and demand. Booking in advance and planning your calendar with us helps lock in supply and smooth out price swings.
Payment terms
Terms are agreed in writing before any production begins. Common arrangements include an advance with balance against shipping documents, or terms backed by a letter of credit for larger orders. The right structure depends on order size and our working history — and it’s always confirmed up front.
